The name of the super popular and delicious Japanese apple, Meigetsu (also known as "Gunma Meigetsu"), is rich in symbolism. It evokes the image of "bright, clear moonlight," perfectly reflecting the apple's bright yellow color and some red blush, much like the phases of the moon. The Meigetsu apple variety originated in Gunma Prefecture, Japan, where local farmers crossbred Fuji and Akagi apples. It was officially launched to the market in 1991 and later began to be cultivated in Aomori and other prefectures. Due to its excellent quality, it is one of the premium apple varieties in Japan, with crisp, juicy flesh and refreshingly sweet juice. It is generally recommended to eat it with the peel on to obtain its rich nutritional value.
